Volume 2, from the Reformation to the Twentieth Century, uniquely presents an overview of Christian history through the lives of the one hundred persons who most profoundly influenced Christianity. What are the results of those changes? How did key Christian doctrines come into being? Why are there so many different denominations? Each chapter is a biographical sketch of a great influencer of Christianity who was forced to think or act in the roiling crucible of history. Some are great heroes of the faith who will inspire readers. Some shapers of Christianity, unfortunately, were opportunists or villains who brought changes into the Christian faith that should not have come. Each chapter begins with as exciting an event from the life of the person as possible. The biographies are presented chronologically so readers can experience the gradual shifts and changes in Christianity from the time of Jesus to the present. Chapters are grouped into historical periods, as shown in the table of contents. Heroes from the Orthodox, Assyrian, and Nestorian traditions are included, as are the key leaders of the Reformation and further developments into the modern era. The lives of the founders and shapers of many denominations are represented, showing the dynamics in their lives that caused them to do what they did. At the end of each chapter is a brief analysis which indicates how the person’s life has impacted Christianity, positively or negatively, and brings historical events into perspective.
